Have you ever wondered who you are? Most people would first think of their first and last name, then their education, and perhaps their job title. But is that really you? It is just your name and your titles. We all play various roles in life that somehow define us; for example: son/daughter, wife/husband, brother/sister, mother/father, grandparents. But is that really us? No, these are our roles in life, not us.
It is easier to answer the question: “Who am I not?” The answer to this question is often expressed very categorically; for example: I am not evil / I am not slow / I am not lazy / I am not ugly / I am not incompetent, etc. These answers are mostly emotionally colored, because it stings or even hurts us in some way when we are labeled as such. Strong emotions arise, indicating that those who “label” us do not know us well enough or that something is not in harmony with us. And these emotions and feelings remind us that something is not right. Most people wave their hand and move on, pushing away feelings and emotions. They then accumulate somewhere and can erupt in certain situations as a physical or psychological response. This is a sign that it is necessary to know how to deal with emotions and feelings, recognize them, give them space and value, ask ourselves where they come from and what they want to tell us. In this way, we begin to get to know ourselves on a deeper level. This sets us on a journey of discovering patterns that are not serving us. Until we resolve them, they prevent us from being who we truly are.
Patterns can be inherited and carried through generations. They can be good for us or bad. When we get stuck somewhere, it is our task to recognize it and break the chain of the negative pattern in order to live a happier and more fulfilling life. Who would not want that? In this way, we also enable our descendants to no longer have to deal with this pattern. We create some patterns ourselves. These too can be beneficial to us or not.
